The
mission of Hospice Partners of the Central Coast is to provide
compassionate end-of-life care, emphasizing life, choice, and
dignity in partnership with patients, families, and the community.
The
term Hospice comes from the Latin root word "hospitium" which
means hospitable. In medieval times, hospice was a place of
shelter for travelers on a difficult journey. No journey is
more difficult
than that of one suffering a terminal illness.
Hospice is a philosophy of care that accepts dying as a natural part of life.
Hospice
provides support and care in the last phases of incurable disease and illness
so that people may live as fully and as comfortable as possible. Hospice care
affirms life - it neither hastens nor postpones death.
Hospice exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care
and the
promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs, patients and their
families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for
death that is satisfactory to them.
A Hospice Partners team of medical professionals provides physical, emotional
and
spiritual care that allows terminally ill patients and their families the opportunity
to
experience the end of life together, in the comfort and security of their home
or alternate care facility.
It is the vision of Hospice Partners of the Central Coast that when residents
of the region have questions, problems or concerns surrounding end-of-life issues
they think of our agency.
